I am a queer animation filmmaker from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I studied filmmaking and visual arts at the National University of La Plata. I worked as a commercial animator on projects for Disney, Cartoon Network, Warner Brothers and Paramount. As an independent animation filmmaker I have worked for human rights organizations and received more than 200 international Awards and 500 official selections with my co-authored short films “El Empleo” (2008) and “Padre”(2013). I have always thought about animation as a privileged medium for storytelling, but also as an underrated audiovisual device of subjectivity production and political action. In 2019 I founded Ojo Raro, an independent production company that produces animation with genre-hybrid contents, created by underrepresented minorities.

Under the pseudonym of Sukermercado, I am an animator and cartoonist from Buenos Aires and I studied animation at the Avellaneda Film Institute. My art is mainly focused on visual/audiovisual narrative with political, ecological and transfeminist themes. I’ve participated in many action groups, and I think of audiovisual and sequential narrative languages as powerful tools for change and awareness. I worked as an illustrator in campaigns against gender violence, risk reduction awareness and sex education. I won several awards as a cartoonist for my graphic nouvelles “La Sombra del Altiplano” (2018) and “Si mojas me enciendo” (2019) at festivals throughout Argentina. In animation I recently directed the short film “Santa Sombra” and the video clip “Con tus hijes si”.

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and I currently live in Montreal. I studied architecture and worked in animation and videogames for many companies. My first awakenings towards the visual arts from an early age took me through varied paths and experiences that trained me in several disciplines, all related to design. I’m always proactive in creating new worlds and solving aesthetics out of the ordinary, as well as ambitious to participate in innovative and challenging projects: I bring to the table a different way of thinking, emphasizing this unique gaze that Ojo Raro proposes.
