SYNOPSIS
A man trapped between life and death awakens inside a fragmented spiritual realm inspired by Dante’s Inferno and reimagined through the cosmologies of Latin American Indigenous communities. Guided by shamans, spirits, and ancestral knowledge, he must descend through a series of symbolic worlds where memories, fears, and collective traumas take physical form.
Blending virtual reality, painting, stop-motion, 2D and 3D animation, Città Dolente: The Mirror is an immersive journey through the underworld. The project explores the relationship between death, memory, spirituality, and cultural identity by connecting Dante’s vision of the afterlife with Achuar, Koya, Emberá, Mazateca and Wixárika worldviews.
The experience invites audiences to actively inhabit these spaces, moving through dreamlike environments, confronting personal and collective nightmares, and discovering alternative ways of understanding life, death, and transformation.
